Scottish
The work of the group relates primarily to Scotland: the healthcare challenges of its people, the unique geography of the country, and the existing arrangement of the healthcare system.
Extracorporeal
The focus of the Scottish Extracorporeal Resuscitation Network is on the role of extracorporeal (outside of the body) medical technology which provides rapid, temporary support for the heart and lungs.
Resuscitation
Restoration of life or consciousness to one apparently dead; the process of correcting physiological disorders in an acutely unwell person.
Network
An independent collective of clinicians and other key healthcare stakeholders collaborating in the consideration and advancement of emergency extracorporeal support in Scotland. This will be achieved by focusing on four domains and five disease processes.
